We have launched a translation service to help foreign researchers communicate their research to the larger English speaking scientific community.

Job description :
We are looking for post docs/professionals with advanced degrees in various fields to translate academic manuscripts written by ESL researchers. This is a freelance position. To qualify as a freelance translator for Cactus, you must have technical expertise in your field. Experience working in a foreign-language setting will be preferred. Essentially, your work will involve translating a technical research paper from the original into native level English. The aim is to help researchers get published in English language journals and thus effectively communicate their work to a wider scientific community.

We currently have openings for freelance translators for the following languages: Japanese–English, Chinese–English, Korean–English, and Portuguese–English.

Candidate Profile:

You need to have:

• Fluency in at least one of the following languages: Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese (essential)
• Native-level fluency in English (essential)
• An understanding and knowledge of technical terminology as expressed in the native language as well as in English is highly preferred
• MD, PhD, or Masters degree in any of the following fields: medicine, the life sciences, engineering, the physical sciences. humanities, the social sciences
• Minimum 7 years translation experience
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word
• Strong time management skills (you will be required to work on deadlines)
• Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

• Translate client documents/emails/instructions from Japanese to English and English to Japanese.
• Prior experience in translation preferred

• Native proficiency in Japanese Language (JLPT 2 and Above)
• Good English language skills
• Fully bilingual or bicultural applicants will be preferred
• Technically proficient (should be able to do effective online research).

Responsibilities

• Review quality of English documents translated from Japanese and Japanses translated documents from English
• Ensure translations comply with industry and cultural norms
• Participate in maintaining technical glossaries, terminology databases and style guidelines

Candidate Profile:

You need to have:

• Native Japanese with 4-5 years of experience as reviewer
• Near-Native fluency in English
• Fully bilingual or bicultural applicants will be preferred
• Experience in IT related translation added advantage
• Technically proficient (should be able to do effective online research, especially for terminology). Should be familiar with commonly used translation and terminology databases.
