Our services
There are as many definitions of copyediting as there are editors. At Cactus, we consider the following integral to our copyediting service:
- Attention to detail – Zero typographical errors
- Language and grammar – Conformance to native English standards–good sentence structure, accurate word choice, and correct grammar and punctuation
- Content and meaning – Editing such that the original intent and meaning of a sentence remain unchanged
- Communication with the author – Drawing the author’s attention to changes or issues when needed, by using comments
- Consistency – In edits, format, and the use of terminology
- Manuscript format – Formatting the manuscript as per client/journal requirements, as and when required

Under this service, we perform a copyedit on a manuscript, make substantive changes, and edit it for logic and flow. Here are the key considerations for a substantive editor:
- Organization and structure
Reorganize/restructure the text if necessary. For example, are the paragraphs organized appropriately and do they center on a single theme/topic? - Presentation of information
Check to see if all the information is presented clearly. Can you suggest anything else or edit such that readers will understand the text better? For example, would a figure or graph aid clarity/understanding? - Flow, transition, and logic
Do the ideas flow logically and smoothly—from sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph, and section to section? Does the paper form a coherent whole?
We also help the author by preparing a cover letter and providing a short report on the quality of the original document.

In this service, an experienced researcher with relevant subject-matter expertise critically assesses the author’s manuscript. S/he offers the author feedback and comments on how publication-ready the manuscript is.
Journal selection
In this service, our experts recommend the journals to which authors can submit their manuscripts. The aim is to select journals such that an author’s chances of publication are increased. This selection is done based on factors like the journal’s scope, impact factor, and quality of the author’s research.
