What is editing?
Editing, in its highest form, is a specialized function requiring exceptional skill in English.

Yet, apart from correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation, the process involves checking facts, ensuring consistency in terminology, data, style, etc., and enhancing flow and transition to sustain the interest of a reader. Where necessary, an editor may need to send the author suggestions and clarifications in order to prevent any change in meaning.

Editors often have to follow formatting guidelines to enhance presentation, and consult style manuals in the interest of consistency. And, of course, editors need to proofread in order to spot the minutest of errors.

Academic editing at Cactus
At Cactus, we specialize in academic editing, i.e., editing manuscripts (research papers), theses, dissertations, poster presentations, writing abstracts, and so forth. Our editing service has created a unique career opportunity open to anyone who has good English skills and a strong interest in academics.

Cactus offers editing services primarily to nonnative English speakers. Our clients are mainly researchers from around the world, largely in Asia, who aspire to have their research published in eminent international journals. Our editors’ strong language skills, sound technical knowledge, and keen eye for detail help improve the language and readability of path-breaking research papers.

We are keen to take on individuals who share our enthusiasm for editing and flair for the English language. We believe that it does not take a grammar guru, but a person with enthusiasm and insight into the language, to communicate in a concise yet elegant way.

"I learnt that commas were not to be sprinkled like confetti, that "sulfur" and "color" were not spelling mistakes, and that post modification was not a change in letter delivery times. Above all, I learnt that grammar could-dare I say it-be interesting."

-Dr. Colin Nicholls, Editor, Medicine and life sciences team
