When did Cactus start offering editing as a service?

In 2002, we spotted the need for an academic editing service that would cater to the requirements of academic researchers. In April that year, Cactus began operations as a language editing service that specialized in the editing of research manuscripts. Editing is the flagship service of Cactus.

How many editing clients does Cactus have and who are they?

We currently have over 9500 clients, from 33 countries. Our client base is composed of researchers who wish to publish their research in international journals.

Why is editing necessary?

Editing eliminates the barriers to effective communication, thus facilitating fruitful dialogue. The author of a paper is responsible for the accuracy of its content but is not always the best wordsmith. Through our academic editing service, we correct and enhance the language in research papers. Our editing helps authors meet their objective of publishing their research in leading journals that have a global audience.

What is the typical profile of an editor at Cactus?

The editing team in Cactus is composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds: former doctors, engineers, former teachers and journalists, and graduates and postgraduates from various disciplines like the biological and medical sciences, economics, psychology, the social sciences, and the physical sciences. Our editors have strong language skills, love their subject, and have a keen eye for detail. For some of our editors, editing was a natural choice as a career; for others, careers began elsewhere but they were drawn to editing after realizing their true interests.

Is editing financially rewarding? What is the salary that I can expect?

Cactus is committed to making editing a financially rewarding career. If you are someone who has substantial experience in editing or writing, you can start as Associate Editor, a level higher than the entry-level position.

However, if you are switching to explore editing as a career option, you will start as Sub-editor with a minimum salary of Rs. 15000. Your compensation depends on your educational background and work experience. Thereafter, our career progression system rewards both tenure and skill, and it ensures that our editors find their careers at Cactus financially satisfying.

Will this job give me the creative satisfaction that a writer, for example, derives?

Editing at Cactus affords the opportunity to be creative within the confines of the original text. An editor does not have the creative license that a writer does. While a writers thoughts are limited by nothing other than his/her imagination, an editor is required to function within the restrictions imposed by the writer. Hence, as an editor, the scope for creativity is limited. Nevertheless, within the boundaries of the processes we follow, there is much room to explore your creative skills with the English language. Editing is a challenging art because not everyone can master the skill of bringing sparkle and clarity to a piece that is not ones own.

Whats it like to work in the Cactus editing team?

Each editor at Cactus is unique and infuses the workplace with great diversity. Our learning-oriented environment and the emphasis on sharing knowledge motivate employees to discover new strengths. Working at Cactus is like a summons to excel.
